N-heptanol is found naturally in essential oils such as cloves, hyacinths, and violet leaves. Slightly soluble in water, miscible with ethanol, ether, etc. Can be oxidized and esterified. Found in fusel oil. Reduced from n-heptal, or synthesized with n-amyl magnesium bromide and ethylene oxide. Used as a reagent for organic synthesis.
